MESSAGE FOR EASTER 2010

Metropolitan Stephanos of Tallinn and all Estonia

‘Jesus, having risen from the tomb as he foretold, has given us eternal life and great mercy.’

The time of Pascha is an inauguration of a new time that sweeps away the oldness of the world. Risen Christ has decisively penetrated all the walls – the wall of death and the wall of time. The event of Resurrection has been given to all. Christ liberates every man, all men. From the present moment He personally is our time; he bears Life that has no evening, Life Eternal.

‘The day of Resurrection… let us say, brethren, even to those that hate us, let us forgive all things on the Resurrection’, The resurrection of Christ, our resurrection, is a love without limits, universal love. What starts from us will soon stop on the limits of our personal interests, on the limits of the world of our personal values. But if we get a beginning from the Risen One, then our love reaches everybody and we begin to love as He did. And that is the Life that issues from the Tomb, the Life that overcomes death.

Let this glorious day, Your Venerable Beatitude, give us an experience of detachment from our own self, in other words of resurrection. Let the newness of Pascha allow nothing to darken our life, because the day of Resurrection is the today of God, a day without evening. Let risen Jesus come to dwell in the inmost chambers of our heart, so that we could bear in our heart the whole universe in the width and depth of the love of its Lord.

Christ is risen!

Pascha,
year of grace 2010
